SUNY Erie Community College's City and North Campus Nursing programs achieved perfect pass rates on National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) for the first three quarters of 2020. Additionally, both programs have ranked among the top 10 in New York State with RegisteredNursing.org - a nursing advocacy organization.

The 100% pass rate at each campus is higher than the passing rates for both the state and the nation. 84.9% of nursing students passed the NCLEX-RN exam in New York, while just over 83% passed nationwide over that same three quarter time period. The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), which is the College's nursing accrediting body, requires an 80% pass rate for the programs to maintain their accreditation.

SUNY Erie's Executive Dean of Nursing, Dr. Patricia Losito, RN, MS, ANP, attributes the programs' exam success rate to the dedication of the students to their chosen field. "I could not be more proud of our students on their achievement. Their hard work and dedication to the nursing profession is evident in their success," Dr. Losito said.

On its 2020 list of the best nursing schools in New York, RegisteredNursing.org ranked the SUNY Erie City Campus program second in the state, with the North Campus program ranked at number 8. The SUNY Erie program rankings are second in the region only to the University at Buffalo, and are well above that of the nursing programs at the three other regional community colleges.

SUNY Erie Interim President William Reuter notes that the SUNY Erie programs benefit from the strength of its faculty who are seasoned veterans in their field. "Our faculty and staff are second to none, and work tirelessly to ensure that our students are fully prepared for the rigors of the exam, as well as the profession," Reuter said. "The pass rates and recognition of our programs as among the best in the State reinforce what we already know; that SUNY Erie's Nursing programs provide a first rate experience for our students."

The NCLEX-RN data is based on the number of students who took the exam between January 1 and September 30, 2020. A total of ninety-four (94) students completed SUNY Erie's programs and sat for the licensing exams this year.
